Here is a bit about my amazing first experience with the CryoSkin Facial:

I had no idea going into this that Cryo can essentially sculpt the face and jawline by freezing the fat cells..yesss!!  Cryo also lifts, tones, tightens, and boosts elasticity & collagen.  I couldn’t believe how quick the facial was– it only took 20 minutes total (10 minutes on each side of the face), and I was ready for the rest of my day, looking refreshed (no red skin at all, just a youthful freshness).  Thrive calls this a “non-surgical facelift”.

The cryo device felt like cold, smooth stones being massaged over my face and neck with gel (see photo for what machine is actually used), and the knowledgable esthetician, Amina, pinpointed my problem areas (and also answered about one million of my questions).

After my session, I saw a noticeable difference in my jawline (less of that pesky pudge under and around the chin!) and my skin felt SO soft and smooth, with incredibly diminished forehead lines.  Note that this freezing of the fat cells is only temporary on the face, because people need to keep this fat around for their 40s and 50s in order to remain looking young.

A CryoSkin facial 20 minute session is about $350, and the new CryoSkin 4.0 runs at $450, for a 45 minute session on the body.

This new CrySkin 4.0 is what I was able to experience on my second visit.  The minute I received an email update from Thrive CryoStudio alerting me to the fact that the Bethesda location now has the new 4.0 machine, I booked my appointment for cryo on the stomach.  Unlike the facial, the CryoSkin 4.0 body sessions permanently freeze and kill the fat cells!!

This CryoSkin 4.0 was a very different experience from my first visit, where I received the facial.  I chose to have the CryoSkin 4.0 applied to my stomach region, where you will see from the photo, I had 4 round disks fastened onto my upper and lower abdomen. The cryo fat freezing actually spans about an inch out from the disks, successfully covering the fatty area.

This process lasted a total of 45 minutes and took a bit of getting used to.  Not only are there very cold disks strapped across the stomach, but there are also electro lymphatic drain pads placed on the back of the calves to to help process the dead fat cells more aggressively and to aid with water retention and inflammation, which helps to eliminate bloating.  These pads can be turned up or down in order to adjust the level of the electro lymphatic drainage.  The higher the lever, the the more effective the session is, but you will also feel a stronger pulsating sensation on your calves.

So, two things that you will be hyper aware of initially:  the super cold disks on your skin and the pulsating drain pads on the back of your calves.  Luckily, these very odd sensations quickly fade into the background (don’t worry, your skin becomes numb pretty quickly and the cold sensation becomes entirely manageable), and the 45 minute session is over before you know it.  Some people like to pack a book to read, or keep the phone handy for distraction.

I was a bit freaked out at first (I was being a total baby), but Amina stayed with me to ensure my comfort in the process (you are so sweet, thank you!!).  After the session ended, Amina compared my waist measurement prior to the session with the number achieved upon completion, and it was one inch smaller!  This is in part due to fat cells being destroyed, as well as achieving less water retention and inflammation. For the next two weeks that follow the session, the effects of the service will continue progressing and your body will continue to de-bloat.

On my next visit, I will be targeting the love handles!!
