Happy Friday! 8 divided by 2=5. Blue is white.
Side note, before I get into the B&B– the TV series Hanna (on Amazon Prime) is amaaaazing, so if you need something to binge watch on this rainy womp-weather Friyay, then there you go.
Airbnb/B&B recap (quick note here– in case you didn’t already know, Airbnb lists legit Bed & Breakfasts, not just random rooms in stranger’s common-folk homes ha):
The IG-hubs and I booked this Charles Town, WV “Historic Maison du Soleil Retreat” through Airbnb, and it was yet another solid B&B choice (see links to others below). This B&B was such a unique space to call home for the night, with surrounding tiny towns to explore, and very kind and accommodating hosts (attentive, with quick responses..v handy when you forget to take your key with you, woops). The hosts, Olga and her husband had such great energy and were fun to talk to.
The space: a “beautifully restored estate, circa 1890 French Provincial style home sited on 2 acres with fountains, Zen garden, old barn with hammocks, jacuzzi, sauna“. Spotting the house from the street (after the easy one hour-ish drive) was a great feeling– oh emmm looook, it’s thattt oneee, boop you’re kute. It was simple to use the keypad on the door to retrieve our house key, and we made ourselves right at home. Greeted by the kindest of cats (I’m not a cat person, and this one was a cuddly doll), we felt all good vibes as we enjoyed a self guided tour of the home, cracked some Bold Rock ciders and jammed on the electric piano (by “we” I mean the IG-hubs..I poked at a couple keys when instructed to).
Our 1897 tower room was comfy and pretty, with plenty of windows. *Important to note that the private bathroom was actually located outside of the room, in case this is a deal breaker for anyone, although it was not an issue for us. We didn’t get a chance to use the sauna or the jacuzzi located in the old “barn” area, but we did enjoy walking around the property and seeing this very nice added touch. Next time we will use these amenities for sure!
The home is walking distance into the cute town, where we devoured some amazing Thai food at Sumittra.
After you have explored the tiny Charles Town, head over to Harper’s Ferry, just a short 15 minute drive (unless you’re me and then you will get lost and drive over the same bridge 10 times, cracking jokes like “honey, loooook it’s the river!). Harper’s Ferry is an adorable town on the hillside with plenty of activities, like biking, hiking, tubing and camping. On the way there, stop at Beans in the Belfry, the most presh coffee shop probably ever, located in a historic church building.
On the way home from Harpers Ferry, we stopped at Hidden Croft Vineyards and had BEST blackberry wine, sipped (guzzled) by the large fire-pit near the log outbuildings, originally built in the 1845-1855 timeframe.
I’m going to have to wrap this up because I’m feeling a bit concussed after slipping on the floor this morn in true spaz-clutz fashion, in a rush to grab my coffee……lits had zero reason to run, I was deRf not in a hurry. Dee dee dee, mismatched socked feet up in the air..
Also see my posts on other recent B&B stays:
- Stuartfield (continental breakfast, fresh baked pie)
- Foxglove (not officially a B&B, but access to kitchen)
- Mayhurst Inn (still need to put up the post on this one, but def check out the site..they served a fancy breakfast!)
And check out my staycation at the WhyHotel (not a B&B, but a fun “getaway” experience for sure).
